Re-entry 1/26/12
After an overlong (and overdue) album-making period (June-October, '11) in which musician Wayne Krantz played just one gig ( a transcendent thing in Philly with Ari Hoenig and Anthony Tidd), Krantz is currently putting a new band together and looking for gigs/touring in '12, even though everybody says it's already too late. But he seems pretty happy with the new disc ("Howie 61") and is attempting to survive in the interim by doing more teaching than usual: at NYU, at The Collective, at Berklee, through livekrantz.com on Skype, and even occasionally at his apartment in NYC if he would ever ...
Thurs, May 26 @ 55 Bar
This Thursday, May 26th, will be the last of a 5-show series at New York's 55 Bar by the guitar player Wayne Krantz. Over the last two months the band has variously included Nate Wood, Henry Hey, Owen Biddle, Isamu McGregor, Sean Wayland, James Genus and Keith Carlock. Each show featured the music of a specific artist: Joni Mitchell, The Strokes, Pendulum, Thom Yorke. The final blowout on the 26th, a trio with Genus and Carlock, deconstructs the music of Ice Cube. The following is an interview excerpt from Monday's edition of KCRW's Le Show. HS: Did you record any of these one-offs ...
Backstage at New Universe
Wayne Krantz and Alex Machacek are surprised by the master himself while preparing for a John McLaughlin tribute at the New Universe Music Festival in Raleigh, NC, last weekend. Thrilled to meet such a longtime idol for the first time, Krantz later botched the head during the finale. Took a pretty good solo, though. (Photos by Rich Murray)
55, New Universe, DVD, record dates, MIT
On November 18th, musician Wayne Krantz will complete a three-gig run at one of his oldest haunts, the 55 Bar in Greenwich Village. In the band for the final show of this series (which has included Lincoln Goines, Nate Wood and Keith Carlock) will be drummer Cliff Almond (of San Diego, California) and the electric bassist Anthony Jackson. The performance is a warm-up for the upcoming New Universe Music Festival, on Nov. 20/21 at the Lincoln Theater in Raleigh, North Carolina, where the band will be shooting footage for a possible live DVD release early next year. Krantz will also be ...
Record dates…
Last month WK played on two upcoming releases: David Binney's latest, recorded at Dave's preferred joint, Systems II in Brooklyn, featuring scads of incredible musicians including Weiss, Opsvik, Taborn, Blade, Parlato, Akinmusire, Potter and more. DB is one of WK's favorite artists and Krantz was raving about the music, calling it "touching, untouchable." Krantz also played a groovy track on the first-ever US release by Ranjit Barot, a great drummer WK ran into in India recently. The release, called "Bada Boom" (like it), is on the Abstract Logix label and features Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin, U. Srinivas, Matt Garrison, Scott Kinsey ...
Well, THAT was fun…
Musician Wayne Krantz flirted briefly with the mainstream last weekend at his 3-night stand at New York City's exclusive, guitar-centric jazz club, Iridium. Despite the holiday weekend, WK, along with drummer phenom Cliff Almond and bass virtuoso John Patitucci, played to more or less filled houses the entire run. "Wasn't sure what to expect, but the audience was great - listening, appreciative, having fun. After some first set nerves, I ended up feeling connected for all of it. Felt really good." WK also played a night with the famed Les Paul Trio at the club, playing two ultra-rare solo guitar sets, then joining ...

Guitarist defies the odds in NY, BOS Calls holiday weekend "A nice challenge", grins winningly DATELINE: NEW YORK CITY - Musician Wayne Krantz is treading where few musicians dare - into the Iridium Jazz Club in New York over Labor Day weekend. "I was a little surprised they gave me the dates so willingly," Krantz remarked over tacos at a favored East Village eatery. "Later, I realized why. But, you know, cool. Happy to have the opportunity to do some playing." Krantz will be be joined by his preferred drummer of late, the ever-imaginative Cliff Almond, late of San Diego, California. Also ...
New website!? Why?
Given that Flash is difficult to use and that waynekrantz.com would like more creative leeway with how we get the word out, we've opted for the more utilitarian, generic format you now see before you. We'll do our best to make up for it with content. The previous site/masterpiece, designed by Ryan (Mr.) Anderson, can be accessed in all its Flashy glory with the "Old Site" link, above.
Wayne Krantz – Come and Get it Tour
KRANTZ'S "COME AND GET IT" TOUR KICKS OFF MAY 2 IN DUBLIN Musician Wayne Krantz Poised To Tour Europe With Own Band For First Time In Years DATELINE: NEW YORK CITY - It's a faultless Spring day, and Wayne Krantz is finding little to complain about as he sips iced coffee and adjusts costly perscription sunglasses in the glare of ultra-saturated afternoon light in his far-East Village neighborhood of New York City, somewhere beyond Avenue C. The brilliant blue sky overhead, more Maxfield Parrish than Manhattan, offers a fitting bit of set design for the guitarist's ruminations on music, career and future. "I ...
